Moving the gaze with a gizmo while taking photos tends to break the composition, so I made it possible to adjust the gaze from the poser panel as well.
The face has many bones, and adjusting them one by one to create an expression isn’t realistic, so I made the bones around the eyes move together with the eye movement.
Conversely, when the eyelids close, the eyes now move along with them, so the eyes no longer poke through the eyelids.
This makes it easy to create a natural gaze 😌

With all the rendering effects that make the world more realistic turned on, things were quite heavy in places with many objects: even where I got around 100 FPS with them off, turning them on dropped it below 20. By sacrificing a little accuracy, I found a realistic compromise, and it now runs at roughly the same FPS as Firestorm Viewer on ultra-high settings.

Hitoshina Viewer values comfort, so whenever objects appear, they fade in gently.
If you watch the videos, I think you’ll see the distant scenery gradually coming into view 😌

I’m improving the poser in Hitoshina Viewer so that poses can be created more intuitively.
An avatar has many bones, and specifying each one individually is a lot of work.
In Hitoshina Viewer, related bones move together according to the human range of motion, keeping the number of adjustments needed to a minimum.
In addition to rotation, you can now directly move the gaze, hands, feet, hips, and so on, and the body follows along within its range of motion, so I think natural poses can be created quickly.
It still needs a lot of tuning, but I think it’s heading in the right direction 😌

I’m rearranging features that already exist in other Viewers so they’re more intuitive and easier to use, tweaking the layout as I actually use them.
I went through all the controls to take a photo like the one above.
Personally, I think it’s gotten a lot easier to use, but what do you think? 😅
I used to adjust my avatar’s position with Hitoshina Pose, but fine-tuning the body’s direction meant moving the avatar itself, which made small adjustments difficult. Now I can take photos much more comfortably 😆

https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Enchanted%20Falls/227/12/23

I want to just chill out somewhere wide open❗️
Maybe that longing is why I keep traveling to remote islands…

Anyway, I’ve been reading a bunch of photography books, and apparently if you want to convey something through a photo, these three things are important:

“What do you want the photo to show?”

“Where was your heart moved?”

“Can you put it into words?”

Without all three, it just ends up being a record shot.
I often take photos simply because the scenery is pretty, so I’ll try to ask myself these three questions again before taking a shot… 😌

While taking photos, I found it hard to tell where the sun was, so I implemented a marker and control UI in the Viewer that shows the sun’s position and whether it’s backlight or front light relative to the camera.
I think the video makes it easy to see how it works 😌

At the start of the month I had the minimum order size doubled, but I’ve set it back to 1x to wait and see for a while.
If it doesn’t look like I can get around a 10% return after running it for a year, maybe I’ll go back to stocks…

I got 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for free, so whenever I have time, I’ve been reading photography books like crazy.
When winning entries and honorable mentions are lined up side by side, the winning ones really do draw you in😌
Reading comments about exactly what makes a photo good, and how it could be made even better, is a great learning experience too.
Among them, I saw some photos with a vintage finish and thought that their flavor, so different from crisp, vivid photos, was lovely too, so I added Vintage to the tone maps.
I casually dropped by MIDO’s landscape, and the atmosphere inside the room seemed like a perfect match for vintage, so I took some photos📸

The photo above uses the Vintage tone map, and the photo below uses the ACES tone map.

A little late, but I finally visited the cave at Kaleidoscape❗️
No matter where you frame it, it really turns into a beautiful scene📸
I wonder if it’s because the materials used are so good that they stay detailed even up close, letting you frame shots in all sorts of ways😌
Next, I’m going to take photos of the cosmos flowers❗️

It’s a matter of taste, but I like my persimmons nice and ripe 😋

Now then, I implemented a graduated filter in the Hitoshina Viewer.

When the top part of a photo is a little too bright, like the one above, you can use the graduated filter to lower the brightness of the upper half.
You can also change the color of the gradient, so you can do other things like changing the color of the sky 😌

It’s still being tuned, but I’ve also implemented ray-traced reflections.

As you can see, reflections of light are added to objects ✨

EXIF

I implemented saving EXIF data to images when taking photos with the Hitoshina Viewer ❗️ Now you can tell from the image…

I implemented saving EXIF data to images when taking photos with the Hitoshina Viewer ❗️
Now you can tell from the image itself where the photo was taken ☀️
In the future, I’d like to also store things like the pose code and camera position, so that loading the image later could instantly recreate the exact scene at that spot on that SIM when the photo was taken. I think that would be fun 😌

Saturation/WB

I implemented saturation and white balance in the Hitoshina Viewer ❗️ Right inside the Viewer, you can adjust saturation…

I implemented saturation and white balance in the Hitoshina Viewer ❗️
Right inside the Viewer, you can adjust saturation in real time to check how vivid things look, or switch the white balance to Tungsten when you want the whole scene to feel bluer, so I think it’ll be easier to picture how your photos will turn out 🫡

Saturation

The EEP settings are shared across all of them.
Firestorm and the Hitoshina Viewer are built in completely different ways, so this isn’t a strict performance comparison, but I compared them at the same draw distance with shadows, AO and so on turned on.
Mostly I hope you can see the difference between the CPU rendering and GPU rendering versions of the Hitoshina Viewer.

I can finally take photos with the GPU-accelerated rendering version ❗️
It’s gotten a lot lighter compared to the previous Hitoshina Viewer ❗️
Even with the heavy RT shadows turned on, shooting is nice and comfortable! ✨
Next time I’d like to post a comparison video of walking the paths at SSOC 🫡

Reading my National Geographic book, apparently to take vividly colored photos they do sometimes make small adjustments to bring the colors out, using what Photoshop calls the Color Range selection tool.
So I implemented a Color Range selection tool in the GPU-accelerated version of the Hitoshina Viewer too.

Now I can make adjustments for those moments where I think “this part of the scenery would be perfect if it were red instead of yellow…” but there’s nothing I can do about it myself 🫡

Monthly Report

A big rally starting around August 17th spat out last month's profits too, and I dropped into the red 🥹 As long as I'm p…

A big rally starting around August 17th spat out last month’s profits too, and I dropped into the red 🥹
As long as I’m placing limit orders, it turns into adverse selection, so when the market moves hard in one direction there’s nothing I can do…
On top of that, I’d doubled the minimum order size starting this month, so the losses are doubled too 🥹

Month

P&L

Jul 2026

¥2,806

Aug 2026

-¥4,613

Total

-¥1,807

For September I’ll keep the minimum order size doubled and just wait and see 🫡

..:: hi-cafe ::..

I heard hi-cafe is closing at the end of August, so I went to visit it one last time ☀️ Everything other than the avatar…

I heard hi-cafe is closing at the end of August, so I went to visit it one last time ☀️

https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sprawler/106/2/122

Everything other than the avatar catches the light beautifully, but at that level of light the avatar’s skin blows out to white…

HitoshinaPoseCode

#2:09068035545597250035593830055557739702886355542506555555KAA5000X66000A006201

<rect x="9" y="9" width="13" height="13" rx="2" ry="2"></rect>

Then again, if I keep the avatar’s skin from blowing out, the shadows turn faint and it loses its sense of depth, and the vividness of the surroundings drops instead…
Following the camera settings from the National Geographic book leaves it too dark, and I get the feeling that, fundamentally, the reference values for the ambient light and the camera settings just don’t line up.
For now I’m shooting with the version of the Hitoshina Viewer from before it made use of the GPU, and it’s still heavy — and the GPU-accelerated Hitoshina Viewer still hasn’t reached the level of the current Hitoshina Viewer, so I’ve got a long way to go yet 😮‍💨
