Second Life viewer development kept running into performance limits, so despite the terrible timing — a weak yen combined with Apple’s price hikes — I went ahead and bought a MacBook Pro M5 Max 💸💸💸

I’d been getting by on my MacBook Pro M2 Pro, but the CPU pegging at 100% during test runs and builds, plus thrashing from Rust Analyzer and the memory usage of the viewer I’m developing forcing me to restart the machine — the load has clearly changed a lot since the days I was casually building a programming language on the side, so I figured it couldn’t be helped anymore 😭

Even though it’s covered by stock dividends, it was still a fair amount of money, and the fact remains that I ate the egg instead of letting it hatch into a hen. So I’ve started looking for another hen to lay new eggs ❗️ (The viewer is basically free, so the painful part is that I still need to generate revenue somewhere for sustainable development…)

With that in mind, expecting crypto assets to become recognized financial instruments and the number of people trading them to grow, I started building out a systematic trading setup and accumulating know-how starting last month 🫡 (With good timing, the amended Financial Instruments and Exchange Act passed the House of Councillors plenary session on 7/15, so it feels like some good momentum is building ✨)

For now, I’m planning to keep it running for a month with a minimum order size of 0.001 BTC (about ¥10,000), and if it can weather the choppy, high-volatility waters without sinking, I’ll gradually increase the order size.

The reason is that sometimes a trading system stalls out due to a bug, or even when the backtest looks fine, running it with real money reveals that profits don’t accumulate as expected in ranging or trending markets, or that a sharp price move causes a big loss. So it’s safer to confirm the strategy can survive all of these trials first before scaling up the amount.

June was a series of trial and error, but the strategy I’ve had running since July isn’t a perfect win-every-day strategy — still, the profits have been steadily accumulating and trending upward 😎

I’m looking forward to seeing how far this strategy can survive ❗️
